Maybe I'm a bit slow (ok, ok) but I had a grip on my 40D for a couple of months before I realised the best way to arrange the camera strap.
The grip has just the one strap attachment eye and using it allows the camera to hang down along your chest much more comfortably than when using the normal camera attachments - especially true with a longer lens attached.
Apologies if this is too obvious but maybe someone will benefit.
