Just picked up my new 24-70 lens (again) long story - first one was a display model so they ordered me a brand new one i could swap when it arrived

just having a play with it to make sure its a goodun and got a bit close to the tap taking water shots lol

i have a hoyo pro filter attached but its now covered in water marks ..

any cleaning tips?

ive got lens tissues lens cleaner and microfibre lol its stubborn!

Try a microfibre cloth.

I always use the mirofibre cloth. It works well for me
 
Bung it in the tumble dryer or if you haven't got one try the oven, don't be silly though and use the microwave
 
Why the cocky replies it's a weather sealed body and lens. It got a gentle splash not submursed. I'm only curious how to clean water drops
 
Hoya Pro filters are notoriously hard to clean... Here is a recommendation for something called Calocoat that sounds promising.

Very, very bad advice....if you're going to put it in the tumble dryer, put it in a sock first as not to damage the lens.
 
Danny sometimes your a ti* but try this.

Get down to Boots and look for Boots spectacle cleaner, it's in a tiny pump bottle thats blue. Whilst your there get one of their little lens cloths.

Give the cloth a squirt of lens cleaner just enough to dampen the cloth. Carefully wipe the filter in circles until you disolve the water mark.

Then dry the filter with a microfibre cloth.

It's the method I use on my L glass and it leaves the front element sparkly clean.

It will cost your about £4 tops.

Oh by the way what about this camera strap before I sell it with the camera ?

So he was concerned as to what to use the clean the filter, that doesn't warrant that comment.
I've always praised TP for not being like other forums, don't start giving me reasons to think differently.

well siad, seems to be alot of it going on of late, and poor old danny seems to take alot of stick.
 
Thank u for the advice .. Eventually the lens cleaners done it's job :)
 
I thought by reading all that it was water marks over the lens itself & not the filter...

Hence the slight touchiness being a over a grands worth of lens compared to a £40ish filter :$
 
No .. i was taking photos quite close to the sink to get shots like this ..

but as i was so close the water hitting the basin splashed on my lens ..

not really an issue as the lens and body are both supposed to be weatherproof and sealed to the elements so some clean tap water splashing shouldnt make it cry

its just the filter had watermarks after it dried and i couldnt seem to shift them .. perseverance was key and there gone.

having never had to do it before though i wondered if anybody had some secret recipe before i started

it was meerly a simple question but as per usual people see my name pop up and think it warrants stupid answers like putting it in the tumble dryer

I wouldn't worry too much about the comments - I've found that taking things with a pinch of salt usually helps... ;)

There's always comments like that in the majority of the threads/posts - I've had it done to me (also I may have done it once or twice myself) its to be expected :$

I feel its just the guy's & gal's being friendly in their own way...

There will be a "spot on" (no pun) answer in amongst some of the comments to help you or anyones questions asked on "how to" etc ...
 
Trust me Danny, there are been some far, far sillier questions than this one on here before now.
A while back someone asked if it was ok to clean thier lens element with a Dremel....

I think even you would know thats a bad idea... :p

Glad you've got it clean, water marks can be buggers sometimes.

That's all well and fine and if someone calls another member a silly name, then it's easy to use a smiley to denote it's just friendly banter.
That's been part of forum / internet etiquette since day one.
It's very easy for things to be taken out of context when they are just words on a screen.
Although the OP has used the subject 'Ok im stupid' so that will attract a fair amount of banter.
Danny perhaps you ought to think about the titles you use in the future before posting :)

Hashcake, if I was going to just knock Danny would I have given him info on the method I use.

Now I may be a tit myself but you have to take the whole thread into context.

I will always help Danny whatever I think, just as I help others where I can.

As for lowering the standard of the board then judge me as you wish. Lively banter is what keeps boards alive, start making it all too seriuos and it has a negative effect.

As for Danny I offered him a brand new Canon strap for his 7D so I can't dislike him too much can I ?

Mind you still waiting for an answer as to whether he wants it or not. :suspect:

i never did get your email mate :( and i couldnt find the thread to post a reply - although the lass forwarded me on her strap so i got it okay :)

I don't understand why Danny gets so much stick either? Have I missed some previous threads on here? I did notice something about you changed your equipment about a lot. But I can only sympathize with that as have had to do so myself with bad copies and changing of minds with feel of bodoes etc. I don't think that's a reason to take a grudge.

yeah basically its that - i have changed bodies from a 50D to a 7D as was offered one at a price i couldnt refuse and then i changed my mind when i bought a 24-105 and i took it back to get the 24-70 .. dont see why people have to abuse me for it but hey!

and as for this thread .. just shows the muppets really (put it in the tumble dryer?!?!) i only asked whats the best method to clean the glass!

Oh forgot , checked in Boots today the cleaner I use comes either with a cloth and tiny screwdriver for £5.10 or about £2 for just the spray but they had noone in :D
