I've spent the last few weeks acquiring the following:
- Crumpler shoulder bag
- Flipside 300
- Canon 450D with kit lens
- 2 Sandisk memory cards
- Redsnapper tripod and ball head
- Remote release
- Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizer
At the moment I will use the kit lens as a basic walkabout lens.
I will be acquiring either the Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-16 very soon for landscapes - most likely the tokina when places ave them in stock, and 100-200 F4 non IS L lens I will most likely be purchasing. Perhaps get that from Kerso if one is still available. I will use the telephoo for landscape, general things that require a bit of zoom and aviation at Manchester Airport.
I will be using the Tokina for landscapes and various other general images.
I require additional filters for following reasons:
- To be 77mm
- To be compitable with the telephoto and Tokina lens as mentioned above. (Stepping ring required).
- It has to be able to fit the Tokina lens. I've read things about needing slim version?
- Think I prefer screw in filters.
I'd like the filters to be either Hoya or B+W and will most likely buy them from Kerso, should he have them.
Now for the questions:
1) I've read a lot about UV filters and still can't decide if I need one. I will most likely always have some sort of filter attached to the lens whilst shooting. Do Hoya or B=W sell filters with the UV protection built in as I don't really want to get in the business of stacking.
2) I need a ND filter which slow down the light to the camera, but I'm not sure what stoppage I'll need. I will be shooting day light - through out the day.
3) Need recommending a circular polarizer.
4) What ring do I need to enable 77mm filters to be used on the canon 67mm telephoto and do they cause any image problems?
I have seen all these brands in various online stores, but they all seem to have Ultra, Pro, Digital or other sub brand to them, and that confuses me a bit especially when I need them to be 77mm and be compatible and fit will with the above two lenses.
I don't plan to get more filters for the kit lens as my CP will do just fine for now.
I have no interest in photographing car racing, sports or birds, as I'm interested in general aviation, landscapes, nature (not birds), urban environments and architecture.
I would also like to shoot in sunset and interesting cloud formations & textures, but not in the rain as camera is not weather sealed.
I know that's all a bit long winded, but I'm hoping with such information that I can get some good recommendations.
