Afriend of mine has these 2 lenses and i think he mentioned them with a view to selling. Could these lenses be fitted to my Canon 500d with an adapter mount and what type of photography would they be used for.

I have played around with friends Helios 44, it was a nice lens but I wouldn't spend much money on it. All you need is m42 to EOS adapter (you can get them on ebay)

Yes adaptors are availible on ebay that work very well.

I would say there worth £20-25 for the pair including any postage.

You can use them for any type of phortography you like, just remeber that the camera will have to be set to manual and you will have to set the F stop on the lens and manual focus it as well.

I use my pentacon 50mm for both macro work (with tubes) and landscapes.

Only thing I don't like about the older lenses are the manual focus with tiny Depth of field. It is quite tricky to get sharp photos, took me some time learn.

M42 Screw Mount Lens to Canon EOS Mount Adapter Ring
 
Yeah, its correct one and as mentioned before don't pay more then a tenner because in the end it is nothing more than just metal ring with EOS mount on one side and m42 screw mount on other side.
 
The 200mm F3.5 is a great lens, I have one along with a 135mm F2.8, both in PK mount, just never got around to getting a PK to EOS adaptor yet, I did use both on my old panny G1 and they worked well, it was also pretty cool having effectively a 400mm F3.5 lens.

Value is about right if M42, other mounts such as PK will be worth more, but no more than £30 a piece really.
 
I have a spare M42 to eos adapter if you need one!
 
Well i have just purchased said lenses fo £30 the pair. They are both in very good condition.They are both m42.
 
Sounds like a fair deal then, any pictures? Old lenses are a whole new experiance and rather like marmite.
