Hi, I need to get the light seals replaced on my OM 1, I've looked on the net and I'm not sure if I can do it myself, so any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Be gentle it's my first post!
It's a relatively straightforward job that just needs a little patience. Buy a pre-cut kit from eBay; there's a guy in Germany who sells good ones, specifically for individual models, with instructions.
It might be worth asking in the film and conventional subforum David, I'm fairly sure a fair chunk of the filmies have done the seals on their various OM's
Hi, I've done this to several Nikon film cameras and found it to be quite straight forward providing you make sure all of the original light traps are removed completely and there is no trace of adhesive left anywhere.
I cleaned the areas up on mine with some methylated spirit, also when you fit the new light traps try not to stretch them as this will give you all sorts of problems with them twisting and coming unstuck later.
It's also worth doing the mirror box at the same time as this can also be affected by bits coming off light traps. Hope this helps.
