I should start by saying that I don't know anything about photography! so my apologies in advance if any of my statements or questions are going to be silly or stupid.
I'm looking to buy a camera as a present and I have given myself a budget of about £200. The person I'm buying it for isn't exactly a photography enthusiast neither, but they like the SLR cameras, not necessarily because of quality or the flexibility that comes with them, they quite like the "shutter sound" that they make! (perfect reason to like a camera I hear you say...!)
Nonetheless, I've decided to buy this person a camera as a present through my searches have found an SLR camera within my budget, the Olympus E-450.
But that is an older model, and I've been looking at some bridge cameras that on paper at least seem to have better/more up to date options and functions, such as the Kodak Z990 and Fuji FinePix HS20 EXR. The two bridge cameras I've mentioned have had good reviews and in my honest opinion for somebody that would most probably just use the camera as a point and shoot are more than enough.
Now, my dilemma is that I don't know whether there is any mileage in going for an older entry level SLR like the E-450, or is the money better spent on the newer bridge cameras that I've mentioned because they have more functionality?
I'd very much appreciate some opinions considering two facts:
1- The equipment themselves
2- The person using it
