Olympus Epl series- manual exposure and TTL flash- is it possible?

Hi all,

I shoot nikon primarily and when I want to do indoor work I use manual exposure but TTL flash. I control all of the background with aperture and typically have the shutter speed near max sync speed. The TTL balances the foreground exposure which is useful when bouncing flash around at various distances. I do the same for fill flash in bright light or hard backlight (expose for the background, light the foreground with flash).

I want to do the same with an EPL-1 and Olympus flash in my underwater rig, but I don't know if I can configure it this way. Does olympus allow manual exposure but TTL flash?

MF is possible of course as is manual flash

The lens you use will of course make MF harder or easier depending on choice the 12mm f2 and 17mm f1.8 have a good manual focus ring as I presume you intend to preset the focus though other lenses can be set up easily

From the OP I'd assume they mean manual exposure rather than manual focus. I don't know olympus specifically but as far as I know I don't think there is remote TTL capability with any Mirrorless combination but I could be wrong as I've only used Panasonic (GF1) and Sony Nex.

I'd suggest the best option is manual exposure at a preferential shutter speed (say 1/100th @F8) and then balance the exposure with manual flash until you get a happy balance.

Hi alf.

Thanks for the reply, as steve noted, i am looking at manual metering, not focus. In an underwater housing, manual focus isn't much use.
