hi all
im very new to this game but im starting to get to know my camera (olympus e300) and i think its time i got a bigger lens so as i can shoot wildlife on my daily walks.
iv been looking at an Olympus Zuiko Digital 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 Mk2 lens and was wondering if you guys could give me some feed back
thanks gary

Hi Gary,

I use Oly 4/3 kit myself.

The 40-150 is a kit lens but still has good IQ, it's not a fast lens (f4-5.6) but then again not expensive either. It's the equivalent of a 80-300mm lens on a film camera. Depending on your budget the Zuiko 70-300mm lens may be a better alternative giving better reach although it does cost around £300.

But certainly if your on a budget and the 40-150 if what you can afford then go for it it is a good lens.

Paul

thanks paul
my budget is not really the problem mate, like i said im new to photography and dont want to spend ££££s on something that in 12 months i could give up,on the other hand i am very much enjoying shooting with a dslr camera and would like to extend my boundries a little more

I would say if you can stretch to it a 70-300 would be a better lens - especially on the 4/3 system which if I recall it right is a 2x crop.

Out on walks the most common wildlife you will encounter will be birds - and there are three key rules to bird photography.

1. You need more focal length
2. You need more focal length
3. You need more focal length

Go as long as you can afford :)

Check out PC world (in store) they are clearing Oly stock, I picked up 35mm macro for £99 & 70 - 300 for £250

Having the MKI of that lens and in addition the 50-200SWD I would also advise the 70-300mm if wildlife is your main use. It is slow at F5.6 @300mm which is why I have the 50-200 instead (not for wildlife). Personally I would prefer to suffer the consequences of a slow lens that has the reach than a fast one where the subject is too small in the frame.
