Hello
I've got a Canon 70d & am looking to purchase an on camera flash unit, but if I'm honest I'm totally baffled with what sort of spec to look for, so if anyone could explain the basics that would be fab :help:
Also, I photograph purely for pleasure, so don't make any money out of it, so this unit has to be cheap & cheerful ;) I've looked at the Canon unit & wowsers I can't afford them!
Thanks for your time.
Deb

Also have a look at the Shanny flashes on Amazon cheaper than youngnuo and better build on the ttl versions

Thank you so much gents :) I've been looking at a Yongnuo unit.....good to know they are an okay piece of kit.

If I was starting from scratch, I'd go for the YN600 ex-RT.
Then as you go off camera you just need to add the YN E3 RT transmitter, a much more elegant solution than having a receiver under each flash.

Yeah get the 600 ex-RT. A few quid more but it'll future proof you a little for when you (inevitably) want them off camera.

an alternative that doesn't get much publicity is the Pixel Mago Speedlight
i bought one on a whim last year and to be fair for the price it's pretty good i think i paid 60 quid for it at the NEC photography show last last march

here's a bit of a promo vid

and a review

most sights i see selling them seem to be american sights but can be picked up from ebay quite easily

I just purchased the YN685 myself, seems to have all the features the yn600 and yn568 have but it has the yongnuo ttl triggers and manual triggers built in so very versatile off camera. Just need the one yn622 mounted on camera and you have full wireless ttl with no trigger mounted under the flash.

Not so sure about the very, very naff advert lol, but definitely looks like it's worth considering. Thanks
