I want to make a quicktime video from a series of photos. It is very easy to do if all of the photos are either portrait or landscape. However I would like to do it with a combination of landscape and portrait photos. Is there any way of exporting photos from Lightroom so all the photos are exported in a landscape format, with the portrait ones being padded with plain white on the sides?

I have Lightroom 2.3 and Mogrify plug in.

If they are all the same aspect ratio you could use the border feature of mogrify to pad out the width to a set amount.

if you have photoshop you could use bridge and the batch action command to do something like this.
Just make an action in photoshop to reduce the height of the verticals by 50% then increase the canvas width by 150%

Thanks for the idea, I'm trying to find a LR solution. I have got PS so I'll try the actions if I can't come up with a Lightroom solution.

I don't use the print module within Lightroom but I do know that you can set it up to print to JPEG output files rather than to a printer. Maybe you can set up a print run that will orient all the photos as you need onto virtual paper and then I guess/hope they will emerge just as you wish for your project.

Oooops, I should have been clearer there...

If all the portrait images are the same aspect ratio, use mogrify to export them to the same height as the landscape images, then set the left/right border to half the difference between the width of the landscape and portrait shots...

Although I think the print module method would work too...
