Opening zip files in vista

I couldnt open a zip file so I set it to open in IE. But I set it so it always opens in it. Now everytime i open a zip file it crashes my pc. Is there anyway to set it back to what is was before? Where it opens it on its own. Without the use of a program. Thanks.

Might be a setting inside IE to turn off some associated files.

Another, better, option is to install a program called 7zip. It can handle winzip files fine, and its free, unlike winzip.

7zip can be a pain because it uses its own file format by default which not many other compression programs use. i prefer winrar.

WinRAR's RAR is supported for extraction only by most freebies. And it is WinRAR's own format (as one can guess).

You can always use the old zip format in 7zip.
7z is supported by most decent recent compression apps I know. You can use it under Linux or OS X, although not with Pavlov's GUI (there are alternatives, though).

The last time I checked, WinRAR was still shareware and other than having an option of adding recovery information into archives none of its actually useful capabilities were missing from 7zip.
