Considering getting a new prime for macro and portrait photographs. Just wondered what people who have used this lens think of it for the respective uses.
I use mine for details and stuff and for that it is good. I haven't used it for portraits yet as I use an 85 1.4. I have used the nikon 105 and the canon 100 and of the three I'd rate the sigma 2nd with canon first and the nikon last.
Macro lenses can be a bit merciless for portraiture. I rate the Sigma 105mm very highly for macro, however, and have one (in Canon fit) for use on my Sony a6300.

It's brilliant at both macro and portraiture. Don't agree it's 'too sharp' and merciless for portraiture. All the best prime / portrait lenses are the sharpest in their fields.
