OS on my new Sigma

Hi all,

I just bought a very nice new Sigma lens and it has OS. I understand, rightly or wrongly, thatthe effects of camera shake from handholding appears when the camera uses a focal length which is longer than that of the shutter speed. e.g. if the focal length is 50mm and I go below 1/50th of a second in shutter speed, then shake shows up in the pictures. Blurriness sets in. If this is wrong please tell me :D

Does anyone here know how much lower I can reduce the shutter speed before blur or lack of sharpness occurs when I use the OS system? Or how would I find that out? Thanks a lot :)

The old guideline was 1/focal length (35mm equivalent) so 1/50s for 50mm on full frame, 1/(50x1.5) = 1/75s on a 1.5 crop sensor for example. However with current high-pixel count sensors this can be a bit of a stretch, and your hand holding technique can have a lot of bearing on it, so trial and error is the only real way of establishing it.
