Yes
Had my first go with my d70s and 28-70 af lens and managed to overexpose every pic :( I had in aperture mode f11 and f13

When I got home I had a play around with it and it seems fine up to f9 but if I go above that it overexposes everything, Is this just me being a numpty ?
I checked exposure compensation wasn't on

Any help welcome Thanks

Have you tried doing a test shot sequence of the same subject? Start with say f5.6 then try f8, f11 etc. If the problem starts at a certain f value it may be your lens is faulty and does not close the iris past a certain point. You could try manual, and you could also try using depth of field preview to see if it gets darker as you change apertures.

I went down from f6.3 to f14 testing it began to overexpose at f10 as though the meter sees it darker than it is

bloody hell, thats really overexposed.

I would try Robert's suggestion of using the DOF preview button to see if the viewfinder gets darker as you stop all the way down.

Yeah that is rather overexposed!

It sounds silly but you have checked the Exposure compensation to make sure its set to zero and not a plus number?

Yes checked exposure comp, with the lens removed would I be able to see if the iris closes?

Check the exif info, see if it's reporting the correct f stop.

I had a problem with everything way way under exposed - the exif would report f-- on faulty shots (pentax though) lens needed a new board.

Though it happened to me through out:shrug:

I've just had a look at the lens theres a small bar that opens and closes the iris should this return to fully closed ?
As it looks like when I attach the lens the arm in the camera pushes this to fully open is that correct

Should the arm on the lens work on a spring or something looks like its opening fully but not returning to less than f5.6

the 28-70 has an aperture ring does it not. is it in the correct place.

yes I've locked it a smallest apeture camera comes up with an error if this isn't right thanks anyhow :)

I have the same problem on my sigma macro lens (nikon fit). It seems that the iris does not close down fasr enough when I press the shutter. I'm trying to loosen it up a bit by flicking the lever on the lens , I hope it's just lack of use as I bought it new along with a camera ten or so years ago but never used the lens.

Tim if your camera has a DOF preview button hold it down while changing the aperture value, it will close down the aperture then and there (I do this on my nifty fifty sometimes if I'm bored, but then again I'm weird like that), a bit like on old lenses when you did it manually anyway. Failing that, get some WD-40 in there! (Joke)

Good idea, thanks, I did consider WD40.......

Until we know what your shutter speed and ISO were set at, it is impossible to draw any conclusions at all.

What exposure mode were you on? M, A, S, P etc? Put it on P and see how it looks then.

Exif says f13 1/200th asa200 aperture priority:thumbs:

Took me ages to type that out!

I worked out that the lens isn't closing down its staying wide open so the cameras metering for f11 etc but lens is at f3.5

thanks for all advice

So it's buggered then. I suppose you could go DIY on its ass and try and un-jam the aperture blade(s). What do you have to lose?

So it's buggered then. I suppose you could go DIY on its ass and try and un-jam the aperture blade(s). What do you have to lose?

Is there a guide how to do this ? How much do you think a shop would charge?

I have no idea, probably best to take it in to get fixed or replace, it might not be economically viable to throw money at it. If the aperture blades aren't working though it's pretty useless.

I've managed to get this working between 28-35mm above that still sticking :(

You mentioned that you were able to manually move the aperture blades open and closed with the lever on the lens. Did you feel any resistance at all when you did it? Is it possible that your camera body is faulty - or do you use other lenses that are fine.

What I'm finding is between 28-35mm when I push lever on the lens to open fully wide and then let go the lever goes back and closes the aperture above that the lever doesn't move back and leaves it fully open.
I dont have any other lenses I've just tried this on the camera at 28mm using dof preview and the viewfinder got darker

Can anybody test one of there nikon fit lenses check that I'm correct in thinking that if you push the tab on the back of the lens to open wide when you let go it returns

I'm pretty sure the lens is faulty but don't want to buy a new one and then find its the camera
I dont have another lens or body to test on

thanks

Yes, if you set the lens to f22 for example, the lever should open the aperture and close it immediately when you release the lever.
