When using my canon 60d in low light I set the iso to 6400 set the exposure up so that it shows on the exposure meter perfect but when I take the shot it's very bright does this happen with high iso or is there something I'm missing ?

How are you setting the exposure?

That said, slight overexposure is a good thing at high iso as when you dial back the exposure in software afterwards you get less noise (assuming you shoot in RAW).

It is because your exposure meter in the camera is trying to set an exposure to match 18% grey which is what the typical scene on a sunny day average out at. If you were shooting in an all White room with a lot of light you would get the reverse situation, your picture would be darker than you thought. You need to wind in some exposure compensation (negative) in other words reduce the amount if light by one or two stops, it's just the way evaluative metering works. It does take some getting your head round but it is logical. Remember, overall dark scene make it darker, overall light scene (snow) make it brighter.
Simple rally..........:-)

Thanks guys I shoot in raw but couldn't get my head around it but that's helped me it'll all come in time I guess just glad there's nothing wrong with my camera :D

Sadly (???) there's usually never anything wrong with the camera, 99.99% of the time it's user error :D
