i have just bought one of these and need to get a larger card to use
the card which came with it is 16Mb SD

i have been told i would need to check the firmware to see if all the up to date SD cards will operate fully on it..

need some help here as i didnt do any firmware updates on my present little olympus and it worked ok on larger cards...i am only talking 2Gb max

obliged for any advice and help
cheers

I have a Lumix FZ7 kicking around and have a 1GB card in it and it works fine. I've just put in a 2GB card to see if it works and it's firing away no problem (at least no error messages on the screen and able to view them okay).

I haven't tried a SDHC card, it's in the other room and the missus is watching Location...it's more than my life's worth to disturb her.....

Had mine 2 weeks and 16Gb works fine. Think it was a problem a while ago but not now.

thanks guys
i got the camera now with an 8Mb card in it....one photo only!!!!
so i can now go over to asda and pick up a couple of 2Gb cards
been googling 1Gb and they are just as much as a 2
anyway the manual seems to list cards from 2Gb upwards

i know to format them...the 8 in the camera wouldnt take pics...erm pic...till i did that

otherwise i am chuffed with the little darling...i set it at 3:2 and wonder...perhaps you can say...why 4:3 is available and who uses it ...and doesnt crop

cheers again

if you lumix guys are using the image stability setting...which one do you find most useful
cheers

IS: I don't really use on my FZ8 and it takes a 4gb card no probs, not sure about your FZ7 though but I would imagine they aren't a lot different.

thanks Aj...i leave it off really but if i wanted to use it i just wanted to know if there were any hints...why they offer 2 i dont know...

ps i am using a 2Gb card which seems to be maximum recommended...i can still get 1Gb though online...if its really necessary

i do appreciate your post

I think one is on all the time and the other is on once you press the shutter, why and what the advantage is though I don't know.

Hi Geoffrey,
for a review of the FZ7 look at DPreview.com which explains the different IS modes and their preferences.

I've used both sporadically on my FZ8 and can honestly say I've never noticed a difference to not using it at all

i havent had a camera with this function on it at all
just had to steady up the camera, tripod...or leave the shot...i never used up iso methods..

from DPreview
"".....But one thing is for certain; image stabilization works when it comes to avoiding camera shake; I certainly found the 3 or 4 shutter speed steps gain claimed by Panasonic to be justified - and was able to shoot at 432mm equiv. at speeds as low as 1/30th second successfully. Impressive stuff. The 100% crops below show the effectiveness of the IS system - especially in Mode 2 - when shooting at 420mm equiv. at speeds as low as 1/10th second.""

will use 2 i think...if i feel its necessary

I had a FZ8 before I moved to DSLR and I must say it was a great little camera. I had a 4Gb Sandisk Ultra II in it.

I used O.I.S. Mode 2 on mine IIRC...

glad of your comments marty...just got this one and trying to 'ignore' all the tech stuff in it just to take photos..clean

Actually Uphall. :)

I found the menu system to be a bit of a pain on the Panasonic to be honest, so that's probably not a bad idea! :D I'm sure once you've sussed it out you'll enjoy the pics from it!
