Fair enough, #1 is just tone mapped from straight import single exposures, no HDR per say, but it does give that effect.

the treatment of #1 is a little overdone, evidenced by the odd greyness to the clouds which isn't part of the cloud colour, but rather sits "on" the image itself. I'm not explaining it very well, but it's common to see it on tone-mapped images.
