I was looking at the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 XR Di II VC at Park Cameras and noticed this:

When purchasing your Tamron lens at Park Cameras, not only will you receive genuine UK stock but through our status as a Tamron Super Stockist we are pleased to offer a 5 year warranty on all Tamron lenses purchased at Park Cameras.

Seems quite good to me. Is it a Park Cameras exclusive, or do other retailers offer this? Does anyone know if it's a manufacturer backed warranty, or just with Park?
 
I've been checking out stockists of the lens using Camerapricebuster and it's the first time I've come across the 5 year warranty. It might be enough to get my wallet open. ;)
 
5 yrs been around ages, its for uk stockists, check their website for all dealers. Its manufacturer backed.
 
I only just noticed this too (also looking to get a Tamron 17-50). So would Warehouse Express have the same 5 year warranty on Tamron? Just looking into postage - Warehouse Express want nearly £20 to deliver to NI (which is more than they charge for delivering to some parts of mainland Europe) which has put me off a bit.

That's good to know. I think I may have come across an extended warranty like this before, but it's always looked as though it was for US retailers/customers. So this is nice. :D

5 year guarantee: If you live in the UK check that the lens is from an official UK stockist. I queried the Tamron website before purchasing, who forwarded the query to Intro 2020. I quote 'Tamron lenses purchased from official UK Tamron stockists are eligible for a 5 year warranty, which is supplied by Intro 2020'.

Tamron UK Stockists carrying full UK warranty (but doesn't say how long for).

I might order from Jessops now as I can get Quidco cashback. :)

If it's the non-VC version you're after Amazon are £33 or so cheaper than WeX and they deliver free to NI. You'd need to clarify the warranty position with them, however the 17-50 has a good reputation so chances are you won't need the 5 years anyway....
 
After all that I finally bought the lens, from Jessops.

Reasons:
Free delivery

They take American Express - so more cashback
Tamron UK Stockist - 5 year warranty

One thing I did notice was Jessops pushing their 1+2 year extended warranty for £40. I wonder how many people buy this unaware of the 5 year warranty. Tut tut.

Is the warranty automatic, or is it one of those fill in the card jobbies?

Usually the retailer supplies the first year, then its the card jobby. Most of the time though you dont need to fill the card in my experience, as the receipt will be dated so theyll just fix it if its within 5 years.

The Canon one yes, but I can't find a Nikon one at the same price direct from Amazon, and not sure about third party retailers via Amazon... (There is one cheaper but the seller only has a rating from 5 buyers?)

(And yes I'm looking at the non-VC version which rules out my local Jessops as they have it at only £5 less than the VC version.)

No 5 yr from 3rd party, see tge link i posted with list of official stockists offering it.
 
I wish I'd ordered from Park now. Jessops was showing in stock for next day delivery. Now my order status is 'on back order'. :thumbsdown:

I tried ordering from Park (Nikon fit) and they don't have it in stock. Rang and they're not sure when it will be in so I've cancelled my order to try elsewhere. May try WEX as it was only a bit dearer than Park.

I decided to phone WEX to double check the delivery cost to NI as I thought it was strange that it was so high (as regular postage etc is the same as rest of UK) and they said its delivery to Ireland that they charge extra for, not NI. Item in stock, ordered and on its way. :D

Jessops online order monitoring is a waste of space. After saying it on back order it was delivered the next day. :cuckoo:
