Isn't Charades the game at which Lionel Blair is the acknowledged master? As Humphrey Littleton once said on ISIHAC, Lionel was most upset on an Italian tour that he was not allowed to finish off Two Gentlemen of Verona with his mouth. ;)

Alby, you're wrong - there were four ladies with one drink, but I had to leave one out so I could get "Apple no mates" into the composition. I think this was in the period when you come down having eaten the goose, roasties etc and Wallace And Grommitt and the Were Rabbit hasn't started on the tele. Also this was Liverpool so the booze was on the short side. ;)

The young lady on the left was about to go; she gave me a dirty look when I suggested that she could make a decent word from seven letters that included a blank and an S. If I'd have caught that look, the camera would have melted.

That's right Oleg it's my GLW making a rare appearance on camera, given the number of conditions under which I am not allowed to take her picture.

Despite all those advantages, she managed to get beat. I didn't spend twenty years teaching her to win at Scrabble to have her get beat in this company. Mind you, English is not her first language.

I prefer Scrabble to Monopoly. If you want to C&C then please feel free. It's unlikely to change this image as the lady in the middle has asked for a copy and I've sent it to her. Your C&C may well effect other images.

The dude on the laptop is easily having more fun than the 3 woman with the empty scrabble board. He's got access to the world's porn collection. C'mon.

Its nicely composed but very much a snapshot. The lighting isn't really that great. It looks quite soft, like heavy noise reduction which seems inline with the G10 at ISO 400. Also it looks over-sharpened. Jaggies along their arms stand out. Basically its just a family snapshot more than a well composed Xmas shot with good lighting, nice depth of field and good processing.

So that's what Apples are good for - viewing porn with getting any nasty viruses? ;) I have had a look at the original and the jaggies on the arms aren't there, so it must have been the last sharpen for displaying on the net that did it. I tend not to take my tripod to Xmas parties, so it is a snapshot capturing a moment rather than a composed image. Whatever, one of the ladies liked it sufficiently to ask for a copy of the full image. So opinions vary, and as she's got lots of money, her opinion counts for more.
 
Haha! Some woman with money has a more valued opinion? Then wtf is TP for? :p Screw post counts. Lets put your salary in there. You don't need a tripod. You need to understand cameras and light. I've seen some great family photos over Xmas and I've taken many my self that were nicely composed, had good light, good depth of field, captured the moment, and simply worked all because I knew my gear and I knew how to use the light. Don't need a tripod. Oh and Mac's don't get viruses :p
 
Did the party last long?

Agree that many photos taken on spec are normally the best but can I see what he was looking at on the laptop? lol

The party lasted about 9 hours which does the leave time for the odd game of Scrabble. I did ask him what he was doing on his lap top, the answer was checking his e-mail from work.

Yes Alby, you were missing something - here's proof positive that there were four ladies with one drink at a Northern Xmas party, mind you two of them are from the South and the other is an alien. Apple no mates is still checking his e-mail.

In terms of processing, they are the same: RAW through DPP and then a few tweaks in Paint Shop Pro Photo. Taken at about the same time, but with all the Scrabble players and concentrating on the game. In the first one, my GLW is protesting that I took the shot at all.
 
GLW? Theres definitely a difference in quality between the first and 2nd. Whether its JPG compression, cropping, ISO, I'm not sure.
