Scans are a bit flat and short of contrast, PhotoShop to the rescue...
Not recommended, but hey...

I have had faint (or is it feint?) images after pouring in fixer first.

I suppose a stop bath does just that - stops development without fixing so if you replace it with developer, it should start developing - as you have proven!

Steve.

The stop probably soaked in to the film in the minute and weakened the dev, hence the lighter negs. If it happens again I'd do a couple of plain water rinses before adding the dev. If you use water as a stop, then you're out of luck ;-)

I would have given the film a good wash before developing it... The acid in the stop has neutralised the alkali in the dev to some extent, and changed the formulae slightly. But it would cause no actual harm.

That's right, it was only after I poured the develop in my panic that I thought I should've rinsed it first. Live and (hopefully) learn. No guarantees in my case.
