I use iPhoto at the moment to store my general family and day out snaps and vids. Its quite big at 37GB though!

I am contemplating venturing into the world of amature photography and get myself a DLSR.

How do you organise your photos from the time you copy your images to your HDD to the finished product?

I imagine that you wouldnt use something like iPhoto unless it was to showcase your favourite photos.

How about Lightroom/Aperture ?

I copy into a file named 'Camera' then once processed through Lightroom and watermarked i save into a sub folder inside of 'Camera' named 'Finished' - Just means all my photos are in one place.
 
iPhoto works for me and is sort of what it is for.
Can rename the events to locate memorable days and everything goes into folders that I have created (i.e. animals, street, architecture etc,.)
 
Hi. I use an external hard drive and have directories for years and sub folders for events. I only upload to iphoto when i want to share pics online.
 
I need to start getting brutal its getting ridiculous! I just ad edit to the front of the file name once edited.

I really need to start to do this, my library is has loads of duplicate shots with slightly different angles, etc.
