Photobucket Vs Flickr

Yes
I have noticed a lot of people on here use Flickr. I currently use photobucket, is there any advantage to using Flikr over pb?

No difference really. Why not use both! I do.

I get the feeling that PB is more aimed at hosting pics so they can be shared/blogged on other sites whereas flickr seems more of a "self contained" community, but I've never really used my PB account as I was not enthralled by the interface.

Photobucket plays audio and video ads as you upload which I find a total pita and yeajh it's more just for hosting crap that you want to post on forums wheras Flickr is much more of a community.

Photobucket enables you to create folders and retain your own filenames rather than the heiroglyphic filenames of Flickr, if I want to reference one in a forum Photobucket is so much easier as it is the same as my photos on my hard drive.

Got it in a nutshell

Flickr doesn't rename my images.

on a more practical note.

i use both but PB is proving to be a real PITA, some (most) days i cannot access my pictures.

this has been going on for quite a while, perhaps it's just me.

a while back the changed the site format and for me it's never been the same since, prior to that it was a joy to use.

Bondy - if you have a BT broadband account (and an e-mail address) then you will get a free pro-account with additional storage and stats info. Don't know if it's just limited to xxxxxx@btinternet.com accounts though.

Must be you Dave  I have used it since joining TP and apart from when they might be updating the site I can honestly say I have had no probs with it.
I have found that the image resizer on Photobucket is shoddy and you loose a decent amount of quality..

Why are you using the image resizer on PB
from my experience PB does play havoc with quality..i always use flickr.

Each to their own ;) but this school of thought has been covered in the past http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=296414 If any of the pics I post up aint up to scratch then I blame myself instead of somebody else

And once more :D

And the when you're bored or Flickr, you can look at using 500px. A very, very good alternative.

I'm not a huge fan of either TBH, but I suppose it depends on what you want.

I do find that there's some slight loss of sharpness and contrast with PB. You can hardly see it with Rich's bird shot, but for some subjects I've found it a little more apparent. (To be fair though, it was over 2 years ago that I stopped using PB because of image quality issues so things may have improved a lot since then.)
And I never seem to have the time to invest in Flickr as a community so I'm not getting the most out of it. TBH every time I log in I feel guilty about not reciprocating any of the comments on my pics :$:

For straight forward, basic hosting to show on the forum I really like Pix.ie.
Easy to upload, loads of free space and image quality is good - no faffing about in menus to find the image code either which is a bonus.

I can well believe it depends on what type of picture you are putting up Sarah, and as mentioned in the other thread having your own site or something a bit more superior is probably the best way to go. What is the name of that place you host yours on  Did the word get attacked by the swear filter

I avoid photobucket to the extent of not clicking on any links to it. It just looks messy and awkward to me.
Flickr isn't perfect, but at least it doesn't annoy me!

Although to be fair, as I said, it's been over 2 years since I gave up on PB because I wasn't happy with the image quality - things may very well have moved on quite a bit since those days so maybe I should re-visit it.

The site I use is pix.ie (no swear filter naughtiness, just a strange name. Included a link this time! :))

PB compresses the bejesus out of images. I can always tell when someone has hosted a shot there.

I use PB and recently opened a flickr account and to be honest i hate it, just cannot get to grips with it, maybe if I used it more I might like it but at the mo its not for me.

I used to use Photobucket for hosting, but started using Imageshack for things like Avatars in forums and fun images, but have started to use it to host everything I want to post in forums. It is basic but getting any links is very easy.

Depends what you want really. :)

I would be interested to know what you can tell from the pics I posted up then Dean? It must be something quite dramatic to make a statement like that.

I have a PB account don't really use it to be honest, when I do though, never had a problem. Never had a Flicker account so can't comment, not helpful I know. Just signed up to Pix.ie, see what thats like.

I'm going to add a vote for flickr here it just has more features that I use  I don't like PB to the extent that I will not even click on a link to it :shake: as it always seems to jam up my computer
