Hi all

Does anyone have any tips (not sure if this is posted elsewhere) on photographing a candle (lit)? I wondered how to get a great amount of detail in the flame without over exposing the shot?

Is it as easy as picking a quick shutter speed and large aperture?

Aim for lots of under exposure. That'll help you hold the detail in the highlights.

:)

Don't know if these are the kind of thing you're thinking of:

Both were taken with a Canon 100mm Macro and a 450D.

Can't quite remember the exposure, I took a few shots then selected the best.

I took this as I liked the projection of the light through the dish.

exif shows a slow shutter 1/8 with -1/3 EV.
