Pipe symbol in email address

I've been recently getting some spam sent with the pipe symbol '|' as the leading character e.g. |lee@whatever.com

Has anyone come across this before? And has anyone managed to block this via their website cpanel? :thinking:

Depending on you mail client you could try making a mail rule that just dumps this into a spam folder .
 
I've tried forwarding the specific address to bounce it, but cpanel won't aknowledge the symbol as being a standard character and hence won't let you set up the forwarder.

There is 'spam assassin' but I don't use that currently.

I generally pick all emails up on my iphone so there no way to filter them. :(

Ah yeah...

I've now set up a rule so that it'll discard anything with a '|' in the To field. fingers crossed that'll be an end to it.
