I am off to Lanzarotte for a couple wweks and hoping to get a few nice landscape piccies along the way.
Have never took my kit bag away before so this may seem a silly question to those who have but it's aimed at you anyhow..:)

Is it ok for the CF's to go through the xray with images on?

Thank you

Oops. meant to read Planes

mine have been through far too many far too often
just don't worry:)

Thanks, was just unsure about it though deep down I knew there was no problem, just never too CF cards abroad before.

Have a good break Steve - you'll be back by the start of the season I assume? ;):)

How about lenses in 'checked' luggage?

They recommend that you don't put electronic items in checked luggage but I can't see me getting a 70-200 f/2.8 into my hand luggage, has anyone experience of doing this?

I always carry photo gear and laptop in hand luggage
I have a kata r-103 which carries the lot, including the lens you mentioned and a 17" laptop
it pokes out a bit but it's "1 bag" and fits in the frame guage

I'm not prepared to risk my best kit in the hands of the baggage monkeys (thieving gits - oops did I say that out loud:naughty:)

A lowepro minitrekker is your friend!! Mine's flown a few times now, and it's quite amazing what you can get into it!

Yes, no problems. I pack mine in Lowepro Lens cases for the extra padding.....20 or 30 flights-worth last year before the security got silly.

this is too true - great bag

Make sure you check your airport's hand lugagge rules - would be a bummer to turn up with camera bag and another bag with personal stuff only to be turned away from the flight.

Check the airline's rules too, then double-check them. Airlines vary to a surprising degree as far as what they'll allow on as cabbin baggage. Of airlines flying from the UK, BA are the best, the cheapies like Ryanair and Easyjet aren't bad ('cos they don't want you putting stuff in the hold), but some of the charters are shockingly stingy.

That's reassuring to hear.

I've a Crumpler Daily (the big 750XXL) and there's no way they would let that on as hand luggage fully laden, so it looks as though I'll have to split some of the kit up for the flight & cross my fingers. I'll definitely dig out the padded case too (if I can still find it)

Remember that you'll want to have a bag to carry the gear when you arrive - and also that the items to carry as hand luggage are the ones that will still let you shoot when you get there should the worst happen with the checked luggage. So - camera and general walkabout lens in your hand luggage, more specialist items in the hold I would think.

Got some half decent landscapes I think, although not wide enough so i'm told, should have took my 16-35 instead of the 24-70 :(

Press day at Peterborough tomorrow.:)

I took my 750 XXL to Tenerife last year with Thomson no probs. It had my D200 with grip, 18-200 & 10-20 plus all the usual stuff that I would normally take in another bag. I took out some of the partitions and had magazines, book, passports, ipod & full size headphones, some scran and other things in there.

The measurements for the bag are okay with the DfT.

They state 56cm x 45cm x 25cm as max. The XXL is 47cm x 33cm x 23cm.

Thomson quoted 55cm x 40 x 20cm although I had no problems. I rang customer services a few weeks before and the guy said it should be no problem as it was a soft bag and 3cm is neither here or there. He said it's aimed more at people with carry on rigid cases.

You should be okay.

Have fun in Lanza - I was there last summer and loved the place!

I actually own one of these just for flying with. My Billingham won't fit in the required sizes for flying but the mini-trekker does and allows me to carry a lot of kit. Just don't let it look heavy when you carry it past checkin :D
