Hi,
I understand that calibrating the monitor is a necessary thing to do if we are dealing with photo editing. I have just started looking for a good, reliable software. Can you please share your experience? What do you use?

You need software and hardware. The software puts colour patches on the screen, the hardware measures the output.

Maria, Check this link out these will do what you want to do without breaking the bank. I've used one before now and found them to be very good value.

Hope this helps.,

George.

Hi, Just my 2 pence worth.
Many people see or read about monitor calibration and assume that if they buy a calibration device all will be well as they stare at there monitor after applying what the calibration device says should be applied but many never give thought to the actuall quality of the monitor, the old adage comes into use here "You only get what you pay for" If you buy a 100 pound monitor from an electrical store then no matter how many times you calibrate it you will not get very good results, you will maybe get fair to good results but if you are really serious about your photography and the quality of the images you may print to paper you need a better than fair to good monitor. Again only my opinion but better to spend money on a smaller screen of quality than a large screen of good.
As for the calibration options have a look at
http://www.xrite.com/display-calibration
you will find ALL you need to no in there pages either written or video.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I also did some research in terms of prices and features, and decided to go for PressProof 3. I wouldn't find it myself because it's new, but I heard about it from "a friend of a friend" and decided to try. It's not very expensive (158 USD for the display license, http://www.qubyx.com/index.php/shop/pressproof-display-detail ), it works with the spyder and the quality of calibration is rather good.
