I'm sure others will follow with advice, but I have to ask the question, what kind of pictures can't you take now with what you have? :shrug:
Learn to take better pictures,(the aim of us all) and learn to get the most of the gear that you have. At a certain point you will come to the realisation of what, if any gear, you need next. If you can't think of what you 'need', then you probably don't need anything.

I wouldn't worry too much about gear at the moment. You say you don't know much about the technical side so perhaps you could start there. A book such as Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson might interest you.
While you don't need to know the exact ins and outs of every little detail, I believe it's important that you grasp some of the fundamental technical and compositional ideas associated with photography. Once you've done that, you can then learn to use what you already have effectively and decide for yourself what you need in terms of an upgrade.

Hi and welcome, first question really is what do you like took shoot, I've looked at your flickr page but TBH there's very little there to see it looks like you like architecture so the kit you have is probably just about right
I would not consider getting new kit until you have learnt more about the camera as you can see I shoot with the next gen. version of your camera and you can get some stunning results with cameras at our level, and splurging on new kit will not improve your photography till you understand the fundamentals
Don't be afraid to post for critique, there's nothing better than good honest critique for improving your photography

There's nothing wrong with the camera you've got. 400D is very capable, and you can do a heck of a lot with just the 18-55 lens - most things in fact. Then you can explore shallow depth of field effects with the 50 1.8.
That should keep you busy for a while, learning all the time, then when you've got the hang of that you will also know what direction to move on the equipment front.
On your Flickr, ease up on the post processing tricks. Try to get it right straight out of the camera, then use PP to enhance the image, not to change it.

It's been said by these chaps already I think, only thing I'd say is possibly lose the 18-55 as you already have the 18-35 and a 50mm, and spend the money you'd gain from selling it on a flash perhaps? good luck!

Yes, of course we all have to start somewhere and we all continue to learn. That's why it's not pointless bashing at all, and nothing to do with what anyone likes or dislikes. It is intended as helpful and constructive, to point you in the right direction.
A good photographer has an eye for a picture, and applies photographic knowledge and technical ability to achieve good results. Or at least, those are the standards that generally apply on a photo forum. As a rule, too much 'unreal' post processing is frownded upon, which doesn't mean that it's bad in any way, just not 'pure' in a photographic sense.
