Please Help an Absolute Beginner with Their First SLR

As you can see this is my first post, so hello to you all.

I guess I’m an absolute beginner when it comes to photography and am in need of some help.

Every time I try and take a moving picture with my current camera (Casio EX-Z1000), it just comes out blurred! I have switched it onto the sports mode but this makes little or no difference.

I figured that if I want to take action shots then I really need an SLR, correct? And that is why I’m here!

I’d like some advice at what I should be looking at, I don’t want something over complicated or something that’s gonna cost the earth and would like to stay below £500. I’d love something small and compact, which is why I bought the Casio, as it would just slip in my pocket but clearly its not working so I accept I might have to go bigger. As I say I’ll be using it for action and still shots and can hopefully overcome this blurriness!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best bit of advice you'll get is go to a local camera store and try out all the different options go for the one that you feel most comfortable with.

Good luck

have you tried increasing the ISO on your existing camera, to say 400? Also make sure it's on the lowest F number.

Don't get a DSLR if you don't want to, if you'd rather get something that you don't ever have to manually focus, get something like a high zoom camera, the fuji finepix 8100sd is my other camera and I love it!

It's lightweight, fairly compact, you don't have to faff on with lenses and it's really easy to get the hang of, with ajustable shutter speeds, aperture and ISO.

You're looking at just under £200.

There are a fair few nice DSLRs out for under £500 at the moment. Go to a camera shop and have a play with some ;)
