ive lost something off my 300mm2,8 lens hood, HK 22.
dont even know what it is or looks like, but its off the inside of the hood and the tightener isnt screwing into anything, so im guessing some sort of plastic bolt has fallen off.
I dont fancy paying £250 for a new one, any suggestions??
Cheers

This is the carbon-fibre effect one right?
From what I recall there was a small nut fitted into the hood through which the tightening nut moved so as to press against part of the lens itself - is that what you're on about?
Maybe just get a small nut from a hardware shop and araldite it back in place... Don't use superglue as fumes from the cyanoacrylate will cause a white residue to appear on the plastic hood...

Ring Nikon service and ask how much for a replacement bolt / fastener for it.

Basically all there is is small locating ring which is attached by a screw onto the inner end of the knurled knob. The ring locates into the grove on the front of the lens and when you tighten the knob down it pulls the two together. The screw assembly is detachable in one piece so it's probably available as a replacement part from Nikon.

Ok, the screw assembly seems to come in three bits, from a bit of Googling the parts numbers appear to be 1K118-544-1 , 1K118-547 and A1-17060FB, no idea which bit is which though, but at least that should help if you call/email Nikon...

Dread to think what the lens costs if the hood is 250 quid, but sure there will be an easy diy fix from the sound of it

Gven it seems to be such a known problem could be worth a ring to Nikon, sure they want to keep customers buying this sort of equipment
Admitedly I have no experience of Nikon and no idea what their customer care is like

ok thanks for the response, ive got a nice nut and bolt for now, can imagine finding a replacement
