Can anybody recomend a decent sub £100 digital camera that would be suitable for an 8 year old.

It needs to be quite rugged as the last one the screen on the back got broken.

You can get weather-proofed compacts, but nothing will resist that kind of breakage force. Reduce your budget to £50 and buy two ;)

FWIW, I tried to get both my kids into photography and it wasn't until their late teens that they took the remotest interest.
 
Olympus advertise one as being child-resistant. Don't know the model or price though.
