Pop up flash sticking on my 50D

Went to use the pop up flash the other day and it stuck and came up with an error message on the screen.

Had to turn off the camera and switch back on, managed to get my nail under it and pull it up presssing the button at the same time, it worked perfectly but it still will not j=pop up on its own.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this, it looks perfectly ok.

There is a little micro switch located under the metal fixings where you locate the external flash.

Use a tooth pick and carefully have a look and lift it up - can sometimes get stuck, so the camera thinks there is a external flash on so won't release the in built flash.

Hope it's this and it works ...

I did what you said and it popped up, well for now anyways, not that i use the pop up flash unless absolutely necessary

Mine sticks from time to time. Try a couple of drops of light lubricant on the rails and pivot points.
