Possible issue with Praktica BCA Electronic

Hi guys, new to the forums and I was hoping you and your collective wisdom may be able to me.
I've recently bought a 'supposedly' fully functioning Praktica BCA Electronic and I managed to track down a 6v battery for it, but I've put it in and I'm not seeing any LEDs in the view finder. Tried fiddling with the battery, turning it round in case that was it, but still the screen remains blank when in the 'Check' position (and all other positions)

Any idea what could be up with it? Shutter's working fine, everything seems to be in good working order otherwise, no cracks or dents anywhere.

Thanks :)

Tom

P.S Can't find out anywhere online, and this may sound dumb, but can the camera still be used sans battery? Thanks again

Hm, doesn't seem to be. Gave it a quick clean just in case though. Maybe it's a dud battery. Would like to avoid taking it in to a repair shop if I can help it, no doubt they'll charge me considerably more than I paid for the camera + lens.
Anyone know if the camera can still be used without a battery? I think I read that the MTL3 model can be, but I'm not sure about the BCA.
Thanks again for you help
