Post production and the ism's?

I'm certainly not a "purist" but I think you have to draw a line somewhere.

Your quite right, your not a purist if you would dabble in HDR but regards to the need for drawing a line, why? Why draw a box and make limitations?

They are merely preferences, preferences change.

Unless your completely sure that no other element will ever change your mind or sway you in other directions, I would say to give the need for drawing lines the elbow as one day you might have a different view, one day you may choose to step over the line.

You've got a right obsession discussion going on here.....

That's better

Mind you, there is an awful lot of this writing stuff! Someone types something and another types something more....it's like a game!

Maybe you should concentrate more on what you do, rather than on what you think other people think about what you do..
You aren't ever gonna see it a different way, the bottom line was 4 pages ago, so where is the thread going besides psychoanalyticals and wild assumptions.

Pretty rude and quite an arrogant statement to be honest Joxby.

Let me spell this nice and clear for you:

The bottom line for you was four pages ago.

It's quite obvious that the discussion is operating outside the realms of your interests, it has continued without your participation and can also continue without you taking part.

I'm sorry you feel that way :(
but since you bring it up

Is there anything I can spell out nice and condescendingly clear for you tomas, cos if your going to get all hurt about one line of not much, I and a few others should be running about on the M62 looking for a nice big artic, since I am a purists...eh wtf, childish, I fear change, I'm inadequate, I condemn everything, I'm illogical, irrational, I deny photographers their title...eh wtf, I rob them, and make photographers out to be liars.
I could take offence like you, but I choose not to.
You don't know the first thing about me or anybody else that doesn't hang with the uber choppers, yet you post all that condescending assumptive nonsense.
I don't think for one minute that anything more than the odd line comes close to describing even 1% of this forum population.

Help someone get this chap his meds!

First off, I pointed out you were being rude, your post was arrogant, I'm not hurt by it at all, at this point your making yourself look quite stupid without any of my help.

Issues were still being discussed and you chime in with the obsession crap. You were rude, end of.

since I am a purists...eh wtf,

I dunno, are you? and quit it with the 'wtf', makes you sound like Carrie Bradshaw.

childish, I fear change, I'm inadequate, I condemn everything, I'm illogical, irrational, I deny photographers their title...eh wtf, I rob them, and make photographers out to be liars.

Well this could be a possibilty, I'm certainly not putting it passed you now but I wasn't referring to you directly at that point.

You really don't have to take it so personally Joxby.

Other than making it clear that your angry, your making very little sense.

I could take offence like you, but I choose not to.
You don't know the first thing about me or anybody else that doesn't hang with the uber choppers, yet you post all that condescending assumptive nonsense.

And here's the gold, from the beginning of this post this is what you have thought of it, 'condescending assumptive nonsense'. You've made that quite clear.

As for 'hanging out with the uber choppers'? Have you been drinking because I haven't a clue what you going on about? I think you need to calm down.

I don't think for one minute that anything more than the odd line comes close to describing even 1% of this forum population.

Your totally on fire dude, as a whole I'm talking more about reactions to interviews, DP Review, Nikon Cafe, reactions on blogs, flickr and the like.
I admit I've seen a little prejudice here but it pales in comparison.

Don't make it about this forum to try to make you out to be some kind of gospel saviour bud, because it isn't about TP or it's members.

That is the only part of your post that I take offense to.

Talk about assumptive nonsense? Bad form Joxby, bad form.

Happy now?

I take no enjoyment from the response I had to make to your post, frankly it's quite disappointing.

You've brought that upon yourself.

Look, I know I invited anyone to discuss the topic here, but in future if you can't interpret anything I write in any other way other than 'condescending assumptive nonsense', then stay out.

Quick? Easy? :shake:

In relative terms.

I have respect for that approach as well as practice it myself but I also have respect for anyone who can convincingly add elements that were present only in their imaginations too.

I think it just could boil down to whether you marvel at reality or un-reality, I appreciate both and like to dabble in both when it comes to my photography.
I too can appreciate both but I like to have a clear distinction between fact and fiction. Again it sort of boils down to lumping all the PP into one basket. There are so many different levels of PP that if we were to discuss each type individually we would be here forever. Which is why I think we tend to bundle opinions, work flows and all other sorts of things into broad groups. It doesn't help discuss the finer points of a topic but it keeps things moving.

I like looking at 'untouched' work and I like looking at 'imaginitive' work. What I have a problem with is people presenting imagination as fact. With some images you don't even need to ask the question, it is obviously a work of fiction and I can instantly enjoy it as such, with ones which are presented as reality I find that not being up front about it and then being found out at a later date is somewhat dishonest.

Your quite right, your not a purist if you would dabble in HDR but regards to the need for drawing a line, why? Why draw a box and make limitations?

To paraphrase one of my favourite comedians Tomas, if we didn't have rules (and limitations), where would we be? France.

I gotcha. Ok, how often do you come across photographers passing off imaginative work as fact though?

I mean, most of my heroes are either portrait, landscape, macro and sports photog's and it's not something I have encountered (yet).

I completely agree by the way, it's fraudulent and dishonest of a photographer to do it.

To paraphrase one of my favourite comedians Tomas, if we didn't have rules (and limitations), where would we be? France.

 Is that Cooper?
I think maybe the only boundary that I wouldn't dispute is journalism, you can exercise your imagination with it's creation but not to the point were replacing an element that was considered unpleasing or erroneous.
Even though propaganda is not something new and I have no doubt it continues, never the less, it's unforgivable.

 Is that Cooper?

Al Murray, AKA The Pub Landlord, and very funny he is too!

Tomas, ref my post about Sibelius. It wasn't welcomed much by the older members of my profession, but the younger ones were more than happy to give it a go, many of whom had used earlier, and quite frankly, awful notation software. But as time went on it's now recognised as being essential to keep up for modern composers. The flip side of course, is that for hundreds of years before Sibelius, Cakewalk etc, composers were doing fine without them...

Cheers Chris, interesting points there, especially concerning the more senior members, I admit, I'm already a little sentimental about elements of my past, I can only imagine it escalating too. When I read about the digital imaging company called 'RED', I was a little concerned.

Composers did indeed manage fine without software before it's invention, it's another instance of technological evolution I suppose, I mean people were still living and breathing before Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin but thanks to his discovery more lives have been saved than Mother Teresa could have dreamed of saving, bit of an extreme example I suppose but sometimes tech gets a bad wrap, when it's the human element wielding/abusing it that is most often the problem.

You've brought that upon yourself.

I'm surprised you cared enough write it, but with that gun to your head I suppose you absolutely had to...

Disappointing doesn't come close, but at least I know where your "discussion" preferences lie.

(I think you'll have to reply to each word, it doesn't look long enough for a full blown flame)

:)

Give it a rest, your not doing yourself any favors at all.

Disappointing doesn't come close, but at least I know where your "discussion" preferences lie.

Another obvious attempt to stir things up again, this time it's even more simple to point out that you are attempting to twist my words:

I was disappointed with your overly sensitive reactions and accusations. Look, your the only person who has adopted this kind of attitude with the topic, there are many folk who have taken part here that do not share your view and yet you have persisted to try and tarnish me with the evil do'ers brush.

Quit it.

(I think you'll have to reply to each word, it doesn't look long enough for a full blown flame)

Drew Gardner, Dave Hill, Joey Lawrence, Bill Simone, Scot Kelby, Daniel Cheong, Justin Snipes, Chase Jarvis and many many more (including film photog's) have all been subjected to a kind of behaviour at some point that I have personally found interesting.

I'm really sorry if it does appear that the behaviour is childish, illogical, irrational, conceited, pompus and out right ridiculous, and I'm really sorry if you relate to the same form of prejudice when it comes to the varying levels and styles of post production that these photographers sometimes choose to apply.

Never the less, it is a discussion, you've taken offense, considered it 'condescending assumptive nonsense', continuously jabbed and prodded and acted like a kid having a wobbler.

Is that the kind of flaming you were after?

And before you give it the 'happy now' comment, no I'm not happy, I am even more disappointed with you.
