Apologies for the title - I'm not normally a flower taker but I did want to get some macro practice in.

Have no idea what the flower is - the plant was sitting on the kitchen window sill....

I like the look of this - kind of an Alien feel to it.

It looks like an orchid to me. Lovely pale colours with just enough contrast for the centrepiece but a little too soft on my eyes and maybe would have benefitted from a greater DoF.

agree with the above.

It's also a bit soft, maybe that's what you were going for?

The idea was to have the yellow bit it focus and everything else soft - a lot easier said that done as I found it tremendously difficult to achieve. The red spots on the yellow look soft but they are bang on focus.

This was shot with the Nikon 200mm f4 wide open so the dof is in mm's.
 
Yes, the image doesn't really work for me because of the overall softness. It needs a focal point and some sharpness/DOF to draw the eye in.
 
Tough job to get these sharp as the pattern lends itself to looking soft even when in focus.
Saying that F6.3 is too open really and you should have gone for f11 -16 preferably.
