Just wondering what would be the maximum print size I could get from my D5000.

Looking to get a large print for the dining room wall and was wondering what size I could get without losing any quality.

Thanks for any replies

I know Staples can do A1 prints from a 2MP pic...but not sure what quality is like

Depends what DPI you use. Most poster prints are between 257 and 300dpi so you should easily get a A2 print out of your larger (L) image, for a canvas they use slightly less. (I did a 55x38 image on canvas from a 3504 x 2336 pixel image. The Nikon D5000 largest image is 4,288 x 2,848 (L) so you might beable to push it to 80x60 but you'll probably lose abit of quality if your looking closely at the image

I have a D5000 and printed an image that was 180cm wide, I resized it in photoshop and up close the picture was still pretty good, and looked excellent from about 2 feet away.

The problem with upscaling is the software adds pixels, yes it can be done, and if you have the right software the results are presentable, but you do lose detail and image quality because the software is only interrupting what is best to fill in the gaps

Thanks for the replies lads.

I think 55x38 will be fine for what i'm looking at doing.

Sorry to be pedantic (who do I think I'm fooling? Of course I'm not!) but those dimensions are 100% meaningless withough the unit also being specified. I'm guessing it's cm but it could be inches (and, without a unit being mentioned, it could be assumed to be the SI unit of linear measurement, metres but that's rather doubtful).

I know that my 6MP D70 gives good A3 prints when upscaled in PSE and could probably go larger if Genuine Fractals was used (or if I did several smaller upsizes in PSE) and the D700 gives equally good A3 prints even with some fairly hefy cropping. Those are both on glossy paper, go for canvas and I'm sure you can go significantly bigger.
