Problem selling nikon AF-S DX 35mm 1.8 G

Trying to part ex my lens Number 6198697 (on the box) us6198697 on the lens ! my well known company buyer refuses to purchase saying the lens is a us 'grey' import. The lens was purchased from an even bigger well know company so I wonder is my predicament unusual ? Anyone else had this problem ? I really believed my purchase wa uk stock but in any case does it matter when selling ?

I've had problems with mpb photographic (this may or may not be who you are tryint to sell to but I'm using as an example) when trying to sell to them previously. They always stated to me that unless I have a receipt showing where it was purchased from then they won't buy it.

E.g. when I've told them about things I've bought second hand (e.g. if bought through classifieds here) they've asked if I can contact the seller several years later and ask if they still have a receipt. Without the original receipt they have said they won't purchase.

They don't seem to always ask for this, but have in the couple of instances I've requested to sell to them.
 
its apr 2012 so no chance there - bought it for my d7000 - changed up to d600 and now Df so lens is not well used and won't be my me - i'll try elsewhere
 
would be interested to know what other prefixes to look out for? anyone?
 
and actually why would the us be special ? why a us prefix and not HK or CH or even UK

WEX are absolute crap re part ex. I've had quotes from them in the past which have been ridiculously low. MPB offer the best prices IMHO but they do need to know where stuff has been bought, presumably to cover themselves re the VAT I've never been asked for a receipt though.

Why don't you sell your lens privately here?

I bought a Nikon lens from Amazon that turned out to be a grey i sent it straight back. The seller did not mention it was grey. Kick up a fuss with Amazon you never know.
 
Slight change but not really - anybody claimed from 'grey' import guarantee ? ie Nikon give you 1 year hdew give you 3 years - anyone claimed ?

Buy a new Nikon DSLR (UK) and you get a two year warranty if yopu register the camera online. One year if you buy a lens.

HDEW - 3 years on body, 1 year on lens.

I have never made a claim, but if you search the forum for 'HDEW' you will find some who have done so and have had no problems at all.

Regarding lenses - I thought they had a world wide warranty, so no matter where you bought it from Nikon UK would honour it. Not so with cameras though.

further -I just cancelled my d750 order from WEX (delivery seems to be late oct) others can supply quicker . funny how things turn out !!
 
Funny this thread should pop up now - I sold an 85 on here a month or so ago that I bought off Amazon and I had always assumed that was a UK lens. I was having a clear out last night and found the warranty slip for it (it was out of warranty anyway, being over 12 months old) and noticed that it said Nikon - location other than Europe on it - I can't remember exactly where, probably HK but just remember clocking that it obviously wasn't a UK lens to begin with. Moral of the story is don't trust Amazon and be careful to scrutinise exactly who is the actual seller through there. In my case I'm sure it was actually Amazon - which makes it even naughtier I suppose.
 
When you say you bought it off Amazon, was the seller actually Amazon or a third party / seller who who uses Amazon as a go between? Loads of people keep stock in Amazon's warehouse but it will say "fulfilled by Amazon" and can sometimes be grey stock.
 
That lens sells easy on classified sites. You'll get as much if not more than a dealer will offer you too. I'd just sell it as used.

My mate who a full time pro,brought an Nikon 14-24mm lens from Wex UK one,it when wrong after a couple mths he took it back for repair to Wex,they said it would take 4 weeks to repair he was not to happy,but over 8 weeks later still not back,Wex just said they hadn't even had a quote from their repairer yet,he said I thought you would sent it back to Nikon,they just fob him off,after a bit of an augment they agree to let him replace it with another Nikon D800 body he needed,now he buy all his stuff from Digital rev.
 
Nikon lenses bought from official UK and European retailers carry a Nikon Europe warranty, Nikon lenses bought anywhere else carry a Nikon International warranty, ALL NIKON lenses are guaranteed service and repair in the UK no matter where purchased.

Suffice to say i have just purchased a Nikon lens from the UAE and it carries a 5 year worldwide warranty
 
Whatever the story - i'm disappointed with WEX and the lens will go to a good friend of mine for a bottle of vin rouge . WEX lost the order for the D750 and HDEW got the order (have several cams from them and no prob) . WEX still have my D600 which I was to part ex and I wait with bated breath to see the outcome of their checking of that !

not sure about whether he bought a 14-24 lens or a d800 ? clarify please
 
Gary, I wasn't referring specifically to grey imports, (I agree with you ;) ) more of a general reply about buyers/traders wanting to see original receipts to prove ownership.

But then why are they refusing to take Grey lenses in even with receipts

Ive never been asked to provide a purchase receipt or prove wether it was a gray or not

Just because they are imported, it doesn't mean there's anything illegal about them :)

No, of course not. All lenses and cameras are imported, if you think about it. But the huge majority of "grey market" items have been imported illegally. (So much so that it would generally make more sense to call them "black market", but that's a different discussion.)
