problem with Avast and Adobe

I'm running CS2 and up until last night no problems but tonight, switched on pc, AVast did its update and when I opened Bridge up popped a dialogue box saying there was alicensing restriction and I had to have another Adobe programme running to run bridge. at the same time Avast popped up a malware warning saying dodgy file had been moved to vault

four main files seem to have been moved
Adobelm_Cleanup.0001.dir.0000
Adobelm_Cleanup.0001.dir.0001
Adobelm_Cleanup.0001.dir.0002
Adobelm_Cleanup.0001.dir.0003

if I try to open CS2 it says there is a dll file missing!

Any suggestions? has anyone come across this ?
and how do I get everything working again? do I restore these files from the Avast vault ?

Not Adobe specific but in the past when I've had 'missing dll file' errors I've often found copies of them on the Internet, may be an option for you if you do a search.
 
just tried rebooting but no help the actual message I get when i try to open CS2 is

"an error has been detected with a required application library and product cannot continue please reinstall the application."

at the same time a new box opened

"AVASTUI.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"
 
What happens if you exit Avast and try to load CS? (If you can do that without putting your PC at risk)
 
I'm going to ask the numpty question here! do you mean if I switch the AV off? I could disconnect from internet whilst I do that I suppose to make double sure I'm safe?
 
Yes, that way you can check that the problem is definitely caused by Avast and if it is consider rolling back to before the update.
 
ok - will try that but tried a system restore to last week in the first instance and it couldn't do it for some reason!

Then it might be worth being cautious, I would delay switching off Avast and maybe try a scan - www.kaspersky.com has an online scan to check whether your PC has been infected. I would do that before doing anything else just to be on the safe side.
 
Sounds like avast might be picking some of the adobe files up as a false positive, I don't think it sounds like an infection to be honest.

Might be worth contacting avast or seeing if they have a forum and if anyone else has had this post update.
 
What were the files moved detected as by Avast! - What type of malware was listed?

Bit early to say, although if nothing else is happening it's more likely a FP - but could be a file infector. Definitely check the avast forums to see if the issue is happening for anyone else.
 
FP was what i was thinking after a bit of googling. I think it might be something to do with the version of cs2 I'm running, I remember a similar problem on my old pc when comodo had an update once, totally screwed everything up, had to uninstall comodo uninstall cs2 and then reinstall and change antivirus and firewall.

It does appear to be only Cs2 that is being affected. Currently running full system scan will then find an avast forum and let you know if anything similar has been notified.... bloody frustrating!

Neil- if it is a FP how do I get round it? Do I restore from the virus chest?

That should be sufficient - you will need to rollback the Avast! update/uninstall and temporarily use a different program. CS2 might require a reinstall.

If it's a FP, don't expect an immediate fix from Avast! As it would be quite a minor one, only affecting a small number of people it would probably take a week or so before the database was altered. Depends of course how many people they get complaining too them.
 
finally got round to testing this out and still having problems with Bridge, in that if I try to open that first it comes up with the licensing restriction message about having to have another Adobe programme open .... but I can now open CS2 and if I access Bridge from there I can :shrug:

So a partial fix and one I can work with..........bit odd though!

Not sure if its an Adobe issue or Avast issue:shrug:

Anyone got any ideas??

Ignore that - it now seems to be working all okay! computers are soooo frustrating!
