Ok so heres a question

How do you stop changing your mind on what to to do in photography

I decide I want to do just black and white childrens portraits then I see some other photographers work and change my mind

I decide Im just going charge for my time and give them the CD then i think no I should charge a session fee and sell the prints

Then I design a website, then change my mind

This seems to be an on going thing with me at the moment i cannot settle on what to to do and also to decide on a good business model

the only thing I can keep constant is that I just want to photograph people portraits, weddings, corporate. I have never chage my mind on this but the other stuff !!!

Has any one else gone through this same pattern and how do you stop, it's starting to drive me mad even though its me thats doing it.

why limit yourself to just one style, i know it might seem like your being individual but it might put off some potential customers. if you can offer a range of styles and do them well people might be more inclined to choose you rather than if you market yourself as a one-trick pony, unless you are exceptional in the one style you settle on.

for the website look at what other photographers use, choose a layout you like and stick with it. if you set up a site and constantly change it any potential clients may see your indecision as being unprofessional and head elsewhere. ask for advice on here and see which layouts and design ideas people prefer, it's a great sounding board with a lot of smart, experienced people to draw on ;)

for the business model check the business section and see what other people are doing, how they sell packages, what pricing formats they use, how they market themselves and what actual sells and works for them. it might not give you a definitive answer as to how to run your business but it'll give you a lot of ideas and give you a better idea of what is likely to work for you.

in the time i've been on this forum i've gone from a complete beginner to now actual thinking along the same lines as you, hoping to someday being able to do my hobby/passion for money. know i'm a while away from doing that with regards to my kit and technical ability but i've picked up a lot of the business side from reading in the business section. so i'd start there buddy, best of luck ;)

I had a look at what interests me, and what I do best.Long explanation aside, that basically boils down to documentary style, and so I mix my other hobby, urbex with photography. I don't go for technical excellence, merely "recording the shot". Of course if it looks good at the same time that's a bonus. as an aside I also carry a smaller camera when i am wandering around the streets and take candids with that.

So in short I took time to realise what I like, and what I do best, and stick to that. No point cutting off your nose to spite your face by trying to be a jack of all trades.

Thanks for your replies guys I will take all in to account the next time my mind feels like changing.

do you know of any links to differnt business models
