hey, ive been doing product photography for a while now and ive managed to get really good results with my 55-200mm lens, a piece of white card and a conservatory full of available light. while this gives adequate images i would prefer a better approach to it and want to get a small (as small as it can go) photo studio to do products. the products themselves are only small deodorants and beauty products etc so like i said it doesnt need to be big. my budget hasn't materilised as i cant afford stuff just yet however i will be earning some cash soon but for now its just suggestions.
 
for objects of this size, then id be suprised if you'd need more than bigger sheets of paper so you can get better seamless backgrounds, maybe of different colours just to mix things up a bit.
I assume since you said that you;re using a consevatory for the lighting that you arent looking to buy strobes or flashguns, but if you havent got one or two already, then consider it, they offer soooo much more flexibility.

I got the maplin portable studio, without the lights and use Day Light bulbs in rectangle desk lamps and I use a white sheet, Clicky £9.99, same a s the other setup without the lights,
 
calumet's shooting table, and some lights, would probably be a recommended solution. shooting table is £60 iirc, shop around between their ebay etc sites. FITP has one that he recommends and is cheap, doesn't sell them though.
 
i think i might get one of them light box things from maplin or i noticed ebay do a simply thing, i have a flashgun however i dont like using them for product shots as its a pain to get right and thats why i would prefer a continous route. i might get that box and then just get a couple of cheap desk lamps from argos for £7.00 however they claim to have energy efficient bulbs 50W so how would i make it so they are daylight bulbs.
