guys got a d40x and just bought a lens that wasnt nikon but nikon fit...now i know it cant be used in auto focus mode but it can be used in manual..but i set the focus to manual and it still flashes up lese not attached....now im assuming im not setting the camera to fully manual but cannot find anything in the books about setting it to manual....can someone let me know how to do it please

What lens is it?
An AI maybe, which will need manual mode and manual metering too on a d40x?
On my old D40 you just needed to turn the dial on top to M. everything is then in manual
 
ooops sorry theres two..nikkor 135mm 160635 and the other sirius 28-70mm 812878 was told by the seller that they will both work on manual

What Nikon-type lens fitting are they? Depending on this they may not work at all, they may work with an adapter, etc.

Do you have the exact model of the Nikon 135mm (i.e. is it a f/2.8, f/3.5, etc)? I presume 160635 is the serial number of the lens.

EDIT: If you bought from e-Bay could you provide a link to the items question?
 
go to mode dial put it on (M):thumbs: or ask a question then go off line doh
 
tis ok fellas..as someone said if set to m i can use both .....both lenses are f.3.5 ..and got another one comming which are f4.5

Yes...but depending what mount the lenses have you may not be able to use them at all!
