I'm hoping to get down to the Pyrenees on Thursday (weather permitting) for a few days camping in or around Lourdes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for some good spots to photograph?

Thanks - Simon.

not yet but keep me posted - I'm going to circumnavigate the pyrenees in July.

Unfortunately I haven't been to Lourdes however awp you would definately miss something if you didn't head to Ainsa and that area. Although i'm probably bias as I spent 5 weeks there a couple of years ago.

Going very near Ainsa so will be able to detour and visit. Thanks for the info.

I have lived in the Pyrenees for the last 10 years :D

If you give me a little more info I may be able to suggest something

I live only 2hrs away from Lourdes, Thurs Fri and Sat will be pure sunshine goodness and over 25°C

Don't mean to hijack your thread - this is my route in July - only minor changes possible now - any info would be great.

Wow, that's a great tour, you pass right through me :D

There is a lot of information to post here, have you thought of starting a new post with route details that could be answered?

Steve

I did but got very few answers - I'll try it again. Dashing out on a job now.

Nice find tim

I lived in the Ariege for 8yrs and and have been all over the department, it is truly spectacular, the video and stills are great but do not do it justice.

My take on the Château Foix

I live just north of Beziers, so 3-4 hours away? I did visit Lourdes and the Pyrenees area about 15-20 years ago but don't really remember much about the area apart from it being beautiful, so was just wondering if anyone could recommend any specific parts of the area that shouldn't be missed? The Mrs wants to go and sit in a thermal spa somewhere and I want to go on Le Petit Train d'Artouste, but apart from that...

And yep the weather forecast is looking good :D. Packed up the car this morning and am ready to rock and roll in the morning :D

Cheers - Simon.

Hey Simon

There several thermal spa's in Ax le Thermes catering for different ailments, Andora is just up the road too (Tax free shopping :D)

You could get there via Villefranche de Conflent and travel on Le Petit Train Jaune.

Do you know if they can do anything for years of mental torture? :D

We took a wonder down to the Le Petit Traine Jaune just out of season last year, so there were not many trains running and got stuck in traffic on the way and missed the train :bonk:

I think I'll go through Foix for a look tomorrow. Ruby went to a friends wedding down there last year and said it was beautiful. Unfortunately I had to be in the UK at the time...

Had a good couple of days in the Pyrenees. It took a lot longer to get down there than we expected, partly due to some roadworks/diversions and not taking all of the motorways we could have done. The first couple of campsites we tried were full, so it was late afternoon by the time we were set up and a bit knackered after the 5 hour drive, so just chilled out for the rest of the day.

The next 2 days were great though, the weather was perfect. The first day we went up through Cauterets to the Pont D'Espagne and the amazing Lac du Gaube, with the Pyrenees highest peaks at around 3,300 metres wrapping themselves around the lake. My god it was so beautiful, the lake was such a deep blue, with snow on the surrounding mountain peaks.

The next day it was a toss up between Le petit train d'Artouste and the Cirque du Gavarnie and we opted for the Cirque du Gavernie. This was also truely amazingly beautiful, with the largest waterfall in Europe.

We were going to stay another day and also do the train d'Artouste, but the weather turned and it started raining, so we headed home.

The Pic Du Midi also looks well worth a visit, but perhaps earlier or later in the year when there is more snow. We will definitely be heading back down to this area sometime in the future.

Simon.

That looks spectacular, it looks like it's the best time of year to go, while the snow is still melting. Can't pick a favourite, they all make me want to get down there to see it for myself.

Hi

I live on the Albere's, at the moment the Pyreenes are covered in wild Narcissus and Orchids. There is still snow at 2000ft plus also morning frost. I was up there for three days last week. Hope your wife is more patient than mine.

Graham.
