I was planning to buy a new 5Dlll soon but I started to worry that there will be new cameras coming out in the next few months and this one could possible be updated leaving me with regret. In your opinion or experience do you think this is likely to happen?

new xxxD - very likely, new 70D and 7d replacement - perhaps. Something very high MP - probably, but not for a while, and not cheap. 5DIII replacement is very unlikely for another 1.5-3 years I would think. Go and get yours

a couple of years yet until the 5D3 gets a re-vamp! ...buy one if you want one ... life is for living in the "NOW" ;-)

And don't forget Shayne, when a new body is launched, it's out some months later and normally at full RRP, taking a while to settle to a "normal" price, so you'll be waiting for quite a while, and at that time there will be rumours of another new body ...

If you want a 5D mmiii - I'd get one now

get the mk111 is a cracking body ,and as others have said it will not be updated for a while

The 5dmk2 is still an awesome body even with the mk3 out and used by many pro togs now and the mk3 will be exactly the same I personally think the mk3 is one of the best cameras canon have ever made.

I sold a 5D2 and a 7D to get a 5D3 and not regretted it once. I did eventually get another body to go with the 5D3 but it doesn't get used very much. I'd had the 5D2 and 7D for only about 6 months and I got the 5D3 just after it was released so I paid a premium price compared to todays price but even so it was worth every penny.

I doubt I'll even want to upgrade the 5D3 so I can see me having it for a very long time, however the backup 7D might be upgraded when the 7D2 is released as long as the ISO handling is better as that's really my only gripe with the 7D.

How about a 5D ii, still a cracking camera and can be picked up at a decent price too.
