Question about light trails

I was on another forum (shame on me) and come across a light trail pic, the guy says it's a 10 sec exposure from a moving car. But looking at it I just don't understand the vast the vast array of shapes. Surely the majority of the light trails should be more directional. Am I mad or is he talking crap?

Depends what he was doing with the camera, all looks pretty pointless to me.

It's a handheld 10 second exposure from a moving vehicle - the fact that any of the lines are straight is fairly impressive....

OK maybe straight lines was the wrong term. I meant direction lines rather than all over the place.

looking at it again I can make out a stop sign, an exit sign and the speedo, so it's obviously out of the front window. just looked strangely random
