Question for D7000 manual focus gurus.

I may have this completely wrong, so bear with me for a minute.
I think I read somewhere that it is possible when using a D7000 with a manual focus lens to set the camera to focus release, then hold the shutter release down, and rack in the focus, so that when focus is achieved (Green dot) the shutter will release.
I might be getting confused (not hard at my age !) with the D700.
Any-one know if it is possible to set up the D7000 to do this?
I have tried, and failed so far.
Just wondering if there is a setting somewhere I've missed?

I've not really try this actually. Manual focus lens as in the nikon AI lens? I not sure if you can do this if the lens does not have CPU since the camera won't know whether is focus or not.

Maybe it will work on lens that have CPU but manual focus only like the samyang lens.

It is the Samyang 85 I have on at the moment, but I also have some lovely AIS manual glass from years ago which I just dug out of the attic !!
One of these is the lovely 135mm f2 ais, which I am going to get cleaned, it is a stunning lens!
I don't have a problem using manual focus, in fact I quite like it, but this little feature might be useful occasionally to nail focus on certain subjects.

certainly it would be useful, i got the 28mm f2.8 and 135mm f2.8 AI prime so i use manual lens as well, planning to buy the samyang lens as well.

So i'm interest to know whether this works or not as well.
