I'd like some advice with a problem I've been having while out shooting.... For some reason my camera (nikon d5000) will stop bleeping (af lock) when half pressing the shutter and when I try and fully press nothing happens. The screen goes black and the numbers through the viewfinder change but the shutter doesn't fire. When I switch to mf the shot can be taken no bother. This is a random thing so it's not my settings or too short of a focusing distance. This has been happening this morning with the sigma 10-20 but I'm pretty sure it's happened when I've used my nikon 18-70 also. For the record its not the lens hunting either as the focus ring isnt really moving as it would when the filter cover is on for example. It only ever happens at the coast and now I'm home the sigma af is working every time without fail..... This is a major problem when I'm doing seascape as I keep missing the water movement shots, infact it's just a problem full stop. Can anyone throw any light on this problem?
Update, I'm messing with the camera now and im replicating what happens by going too close for the focusing to work and the shutter to fire.
My only conclusion is that the camera is trying to focus on my filters! I was using my Kood nd4 and Lee 0.9 soft grad stacked in the Lee foundation Kit.
