"Hello cheap eBay flashgun" - "Hello RayFlash"

Got this bad boy in the post this morning, bought it second hand but unused for £80.

Love it so far, it's sturdy, easy to use, definately portable and not a nuisance when it's on the camera. Also works well on the end of a TTL chord. As per reports I had to glue some rubber washers into the head to make it fit on my SB600 but it took two seconds and fits like a glove now, without wobbling or feeling loose at all.

So far I've found it works great as an on-axis fill flash when combined with an off-camera flash bouncing off the ceiling or wall.

Not overly keen on the traditional effect of ringflash-against-a-wall though, particularly since I find the RayFlash is a bit small and produces thin, harshy shadows unless you're real close to the subject.

I've got the original RingFlash Adapter. Like it a lot, especially ring-flash-against-the-wall look ;) and for macro too

the only problem with these adapters is you lose AF assist beams, not important for macro but for dimly lit situations i would like something that reatins that function,

Yeah it's annoying loosing the AF assist, i notice there's a pair of pins on the front of the SB600 which are called "external AF assist lamp connector" in the manual, but I don't know where to get an external AF assist lamp?
