Yes
I've recently decided to get my interest in photography going again , but this time on a budget so I bought myself a nice wee bargain , canon 5d mk3 with the Sigma 24-105 f4 art. I bought the RC- 6 to help out on the long exposures that I enjoy but for one reason or another I can't get it to work . Whilst I'm on here i will ask if its possible to use my samsung s25 ultra as a monitor on the 5d mk3 ? my old knees aren't what they were and I struggle to get low to the ground so hence why I'm asking about the using my phone as a monitor.

Cheers

Are you pointing the controller at the front of the camera rather than the rear? Battery OK?

No idea about the monitor.

The camera has to be set to a self timer mode for the remote to work; if it is in the single shot or continuous modes it won't work. I think you would be better off getting an HDMI monitor; using you phone would require using aHDMI to USB capture card and a third party app.

I use that remote with a 7Dii. As Steven has pointed out the camera must be in self-timer mode. Also, the camera is very fussy about where the remote is pointing. So far as I can work out it need to be pointed straight at the spot just below the shutter release, where the yellow light flashes.

You might find (as I did) that the cable remote release (RS-80N3, or cheapo equivalent) is a lot less frustrating.

Beginning to think that myself
There’s also wireless cable releases that work seamlessly for very little money.
Get the combined hotshoe and remote release and you’ve two new gadgets to explore

Due to it running off an IR signal you have to be in front of the camera lens for it to work. this is line of sight.
A radio transmitter can fire a trigger within the the range which can be up to 90ft away in any direction. So i have gone over to Godox for a transmitter X2T and just sold an X1T receiver that I had for my Nikon camera/Lenses which I also no longer have.

and get a good star bust effect on full power in daylight Taken about 40ft away

Yes , I've been looking at those also

Although I forgot to mention the other obvious option. Download Canon Camera connect and use your phone control your camera / take pictures.
