Would love to know what you think of this. I don't think I've made the most of an interesting subject.

I think it's a lock keeper's cottage. It stands next to the Cromford Canal, which is a disused relic of the early days of the industrial revolution.
 
I've walked past that a few times.
I like the photo, it seems quite muted which suits the setting for me.

Actually I didn't get the effect I was after; I had the idea of a grainy B&W image would suit the scene quite well.
I shot it in colour with an ISO of 4000 then did the B&W conversion in PSE.
Evidently 4000 wasn't high enough as the graininess isn't noticeable enough for my liking. Also, would it have been better to shoot in B&W in-camera rather than convert in PP?
 
Try adding grain and boosting the contrast, looks better.

Dunno if you can do that in elements though............:shrug:
 
You can add grain with CS 5 and maybe try the High Pass filter to bring out some detail
