Recommend a tripod/monopod combi??

Can anyone recommend a fairly decent "amateur" level tripod/monopod combi that isnt too costly. Cant seem to find any anywhere, though I know there out there! Links would be appreciated :) Also, is it worth just buying a tripod, and just using that as a monopod, when its folded together?

What camera equipment are you going to use on it :shrug:

Well to be honest its going to be shared between me and a friend, with a Panasonic DMC FZ45 and a Canon 40D. So a bit of difference between those cameras!
 
red snapper looks good I wish I had asked you lot before I made the mistake on the tripod I choose[KONIG-kn tripod 60],the legs are ok but the ball head is !!!!! ache. learn by my mistakes
 
Cheers for that Trigs, looks like they've got some good stuff on there :) This is an early start into a hobby which I hope to thoroughly enjoy :D

Equipment wise its a bit of a mind boggle, hence why I didnt go for the "all the gear, no idea" approach unlike my friend....... :lol:
