Help!

I'm in a confusion of which bag to get for my trip to Egypt next week..

I've currently got a lowepro fastpack 350 but it's a very large bag, I want something that I can take out on trips and it not get in the way too much, so something smaller and lighter is a must.. Especially due to the tempreture over there.

The gear that I'll be taking is: Camera with a 17-50 2.8, 50mm 1.8, and a flash - don't think I'll bother with the 70-200 2.8 because of size. Oh! And I might take my netbook so space for that would also be nice. And if possible something that I can attach a small tripod to. As you can see I don't want much in my new bag hahaha

So.... Recommend me a bag!

Try buying a shoulder bag from a high-street shop. Pop a little padding from a cut-up roll mat (£6 or something from argos?) to the bottom and back of the bag. Use few bit's of rope to fasion some tripod hooks and put the laptop behind the roll mat. Then wrap gear in thin scarves (stylish tie-like-contintental-type things that are really thin). There's lots of ways of doing it.

I tend to just chuck everything into my shoulder bag and use blu-ray cases for dividers but if your spending a lot of time out and about a little padding might be nice. :D

OR for prebuilt look at the national geographic bags (might be uncomfortable on the street) and try looking into the domke bags too.

Hi

I fully recommend picking up a Lowepro Classified Sling 180 AW

It is the "Sling" version of their classified range, and is a very nicely sized small-ish sling backpack. The space inside is really very good for the size of the bag.

I currently hold this kit in it, and I'm gonna be using it on my week long trip in Japan in 2 days.

Canon 40D
Panasonic GF1 + 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens
17-55 f/2.8 IS
70-200 f4 L IS
Sigma 10-20
50mm f/1.8
Small-ish external flash
Filter wallet + adapter ring/holders
Tripod ballhead

It also has a tripod holder on the side to attach a tripod securely, which I mainly bought the bag for (upgraded from a Fastpack 250), and it has an All-Weather cover that is rain proof for when it decides to pour.

It also has a front pocket to put in a netbook which would be ideal for you.........I've actually managed to squeeze in my 13" Macbook Pro. With all of my kit, it is a bit of a squeeze and can not fit much else.........but it's perfect if you want to take a fair bit of kit in a not so massive bag.

My Dad took my crumpler muffin top 3000 a few months ago with a gripped 450D, kit lens, 50mm (unused) and I used to store my 580EX2 in the bag with the same kit in there no problem.

I have done something similar, but used a small KATA bag to drop inside as the padding, works for me as a general 'have bag/camera will travel' 24/7. If you dont want the camera but need the detritus one also caries in the 'man bag' take out the KATA bag modular style:

Advantage to this way, no big sign 'HERE BE EXPENSIVE PHOTO GEAR'!!!!!:nono:

By the way, bag cost £12 on my local market, KATA bags of which there are 3 or 4 small ones £25-£30, got mine from Warehouse Express, excellent 'hands on display', all sorts and types of manufacturers, including National Geographic, nearly went that rout . . . ? But I prefer the modular system, accommodates two camera systems that I have as 'either-or'.
